Reinold (Rijk) O.B. Gans, MD, PhD
Rijk Gans studied Medicine at the University of Utrecht, The Netherlands. After graduation he completed is training in internal medicine at the Free University Hospital, Amsterdam. He wrote his thesis about insulin and blood pressure regulation. He was head and chair of the department of Medicine at the University Medical Center Groningen, Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (RUG), the Netherlands for almost 25 years.
He chaired the committee introducing competency-based medical education in post-graduate training in the Netherlands for all medical specialties. He was member of the writing committee on graduate training in medicine at the RUG. Until Jan 2017 he chaired the national committee of program directors overseeing the training in internal medicine in the Netherlands.
He is a principal investigator and principal educator and has authored more than 400 original publications in the field of medicine and medical education.
He is currently working as an internist in Curaçao Medical Center, Willemstad, Curaçao, the Netherlands Antilles.
