Prof. Rizzo is Professor of Internal Medicine at the School of Medicine, University of Palermo, Italy and Delegate of the Rector for International Cooperation. He is Board Member of the Central Europe Diabetes Association (CEDA) and Board Member of the European Federation, International Atherosclerosis Society (IAS). He has previously served as Executive Board Member of the Mediterranean Group for the Study of Diabetes (MGSD). Prof. Rizzo has given invited lectures in 25 countries, and he sits in the editorial board of 16 international journals with Impact Factor (IF) in the fields of diabetes, metabolism, cardiovascular diseases and pharmacology. In addition, he is the new Editor in Chief of the Journal of Diabetes and its Complications (impact factor of 3.0) published by Elsevier. cThe research work of Prof. Rizzo combines translational research (focus on the effects and mechanisms of action of anti-diabetic and cardiometabolic agents) and basic research (focus on novel cardiometabolic risk factors). He has been over the years Chairman or Vice-Chairman in several International Expert Panels in the fields of diabetes, dyslipidemia and the metabolic syndrome.
