Alptekin Gürsoy obtained his M.D. degree from the Hacettepe University Medical School in Turkey in 1995. He completed Internal Medicine and Endocrinology training at Ankara University in 2001 and 2005, respectively. He worked on “ret proto-oncogene mutations in medullary thyroid carcinoma” in “Institute for Hormone research and Infertility” in Germany in 2000. He worked as an instructor in Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Baskent University Medical School and became Assistant Professor of Endocrinology at the same department in 2006. In 2010, he moved to Ankara Güven Hospital and is currently consultant endocrinologist at the same hospital.
His specific research interests include thyroid ultrasound and fine-needle aspiration biopsy of thyroid nodules, thyroid cancer, ret proto-oncogene mutations in medullary thyroid carcinoma and autoimmune thyroid disorders. He has focused many of his work capacity on thyroid ultrasound and fine-needle aspiration biopsy of thyroid nodules since 2000. Dr. Gursoy has over 70 original papers on peer reviewed journals on the subject of thyroid disorders. He is an invited reviewer for more than 20 scientific medical journals.
